When it comes to basketball coverage in the City of Ottawa, his is a voice fans know all too well. Be it in front of a camera as play-by-play announcer, or as the public address announcer covering U SPORTS at the University of Ottawa, for more than 20 years, Richard Provencher has been pumping up crowds at every level: high school, CEGEP, university, international, NBA, and now the CEBL. 


A well-traveled, dynamic and informative announcer, emcee, and moderator, Richard’s professional background includes stints as sports anchor for Global Television in Montreal, Sportsnet in Toronto and Rogers TV in Ottawa. He also spent two years working as a Public Information Officer for the United Nations in Afghanistan where his press conferences were covered by major global outlets. Currently he serves as Chief of Media Relations at Library and Archives Canada.


He lists his most memorable beats having covered the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, the OHL’s Ottawa 67s, and the Canadian university sports scene.


A University of Ottawa alumni, he continues to represent his alma mater with pride and distinction as the long-time voice of Gee-Gees basketball and football.


He is the proud father of two basketball-playing sons, and currently serves as the President of the Gloucester-Cumberland Basketball Association. In his spare time, he also teaches kickboxing.
